About the Author
Azby Brown is the director of KIT Future Design Institute in Tokyo. After studying architecture and sculpture at Yale College, Brown entered the Department of Architecture of the University of Tokyo under a grant from the Japanese Ministry of Education. After completing his Ph.D., he became an associate professor of architectural design at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology. He is the author of Just Enough, Small Spaces, The Japanese Dream House, and The Very Small Home. He lives in Tokyo.

Insightful journey into the world of Japanese carpentry

Right from the first page the reader is transported into the life of the master builder. A clear departure from Western architecture, where design is the inspiration of an individual, Japanese tradition follows rules created by the forest; the way trees grow their strengths and the specific use for each material. Azby's personal journey through the difficult and demanding world of the apprentice woodworker allows the reader a unique view of the culture of wood going back to ancient times. Well worth keeping and sharing.

Five Stars for a beautiful book

This book is an amazing work that will appeal to anyone who has an appreciation of skilled craftsmanship. The Genius of Japanese Carpentry contains beautiful photographs and detailed drawings of Japanese woodworking and precise joinery. The main section of the book, Erection of the Picture Hall beautifully details a large scale, multi-man restoration project. Readers will feel as if they are right there,showered with wood chips among the smell of freshly hewn timber.

Lets Settle This

I thought this book was excellent because it shows how a man's life could change because of Judge Gottsfeld "Supreme Court Judge in the State of Arizona". The Judge is the uncle of John's ex-wife. He reached out to the judge on S>I> and the lawyers, who in turn denied John his right to justice. Thank God for the Forensic Physcologist who could not be corrupted. He awarded custody of ToniAnn to John.
The book shows where Judge Gottsfeld admitted wrongdoing. Its a good reading book, especially for someone thinking about getting divorced.

Every single dog lover should read this book! I did not know it would be humanly possible for me to love my dogs any more than I already do, but after reading this book, that changed to 1 million times more.

A Must Read!

Ummmm, I almost cannot fathom how the depths of my love for my Critters could be any deeper than I've always felt about them, but I was WRONG! In a few short hours of reading Mr Cameron's 'A Dog's Purpose' I have realized that as a Disabled American Veteran who struggles with PTSD how they have saved my life & continue to save my life on a daily basis with their unconditional warmth, love, loyalty & compassion! They give their ALL to us in everything they do & ask for so very little in return. They are God's Greatest gift to us Humans here on Earth & Im so glad that this Wonderful Book reminded me of that.

This is a Definite 'Must Read' book for the entire Human Race! To go along and experience Toby, Baily, Ellie & Buddy's Purpose in life might not only help us appreciate our loyal animal companions more, but each other as well!

An absolute MUST book for anyone that has lost a pet

Definately a MUST have book for anyone that has lost a pet. The story is told first person by the dog - it is absolutely brilliant; the dog lives several lives and you will find yourself remembering your special companion in each chapter of this dogs life. You will laugh and you will cry - and you will find some comfort for your recent loss. It truely help my broken heart when I has recently lost my miniature schnauzer at 14 years 39 days young - she had been with me since she was 8 weeks old.

Thank you to Bruce Cameron for your brilliant mind to write such a heartwarming book for us pet lovers - once again, your book helped me through the most difficult time I have had in my life - I read it in one day.

Cooking smart

This book has come in so handy since we have had to make lifestyle changes due to high cholesterol. The best thing about this book is that it uses pretty basic ingredients that you can find at any grocery store. Other books I have with low cholesterol recipes had odd ingredients that I just won't keep in stock normally. The recipes offered by the AHA cookbook identify with "real", everyday people making the lifestyle transition much easier than I originally thought. The final outcome: Palate tantalizing dishes appropriate for the whole family.

GREAT recipes!

My husband was put on a low-fat diet so I picked up this cookbook because I liked that it was by the American Heart Association. Every recipe I've made has been delicious! (with the exception of one dessert which was just okay, but low-fat desserts are tough) I will say though, that this cookbook can't be called quick and easy. As someone else mentioned, I have to plan in advance so I can pick up all the ingredients at the grocery store. You also have to make sure to allow plenty of time for cooking the meal. Nothing has been very fast, although it's nothing overly complicated for this basic chef.

All-in-all, I would recommend this cookbook to anyone trying to eat healthier as I think it's an easier transition when the food tastes good, and these recipes definitely do!

Excellent book

I first bought an earlier edition of this book a few years ago when I decided it was time to lose weight. It made cooking for a family of 4 super easy. The meals are delicious and healthy...although there are a few recipes that didnt fit my taste.

At first, you do end up spending more at the grocery store to buy all the new spices & a few new ingredients, but eventually, the cost tapers down. Our weekly grocery bill averaged around $150.00 for a family of 4 adults which included 3 meals a day with snacks. So, I have to say that it is pretty cost efficient as well.

By cooking directly from this book, eating about 1600 claories a day, and walking on the treadmill 20 minutes a day, I went from 286 lbs down to about 215 lbs in 3 months. At that point, I got a gym membership and cut back on my calories just a little bit more (down to 1500). I am now 138 lbs and have been able to keep it off so far.

This book definately gave me a good kickstart to to getting my weight down (and giving my heart a break). I would recommend it in a heartbeat!!!

A Classic Theatrical Thriller

Although he had a degree in law and a distinguished military career, Frederick Knott (1916-2002) is best recalled as the author of two very famous plays: 1952's DIAL M FOR MURDER and 1966's WAIT UNTIL DARK. Both enjoyed extremely successful runs in London and New York; both received memorable film adaptations; and both remain popular on the professional and amateur stage to this day. The plays are similar in structure: in each a lone woman is the victim of a complex criminal plot.

In the case of WAIT UNTIL DARK, the action centers on Susy Hendrix, a blind woman who lives with her photographer-husband Sam in a basement apartment in New York. While traveling from Canada to New York, Sam was approached by a woman who asked him to deliver a doll to a child in a hospital--but upon his return Sam mislays the doll. It seems a matter of small consequence, but unknown to Sam and Suzy the doll contains heroin, and three criminals set out to recover it.

The recovery process is simple: they will lure Sam away for the day and play out a con game designed to find the doll and turn it over to them. No fuss, no muss, and no one gets hurt. The con game seems successful--but Susy comes to suspect two of the men are actually police officers and that the doll may implicate her husband in a recent murder. She finds the doll, but when she refuses to turn it over she precipitates one of the most hair-raising sequences in modern theatrical history.

WAIT UNTIL DARK is particularly famous because the last fifteen minutes or so are played in absolute darkness broken only the flare of matches and the occasional flash of light. But plays are written to be seen, not read, and the effect on the page is therefore somewhat muted; in actual performance, however, audiences gasp and scream as Susy plays out a risky manouver in an effort to elude her tormentors. It is pure theatre and truly memorable stuff. Recommended.

This script reads easy and has really helpful notes for the actor & director. Allows you to 'feel' the ambiance that the author wanted to create.
