a great sequel

Our 28month old son loves this book and it became the first book he asked to keep in his crib at night while he slept. The original ("Caps for Sale") was also a favorite but our little music lover likes this one better because of the band and instruments. Great book to read soon after a child experiences a fair, carnival or circus because they can relate their experience to the book's pictures and story. The text is very good (but not as good as the first book, simply because I think the first book has truly outstanding text.) The book is very slightly, but not objectionably dated, with regard to race and gender depictions but the values depicted in the story are good and developmentally appropriate for toddlers on up. Definitely worth reading.

Those caps are for sale again!

This book is very similar to her first one, Caps for Sale, though this one has a stronger storyline. The peddler is back selling his caps-carrying them all on his head, as usual. But no one is buying-they're all at the county fair. At this fair there is a circus, which has an elephant who likes to take caps. He snatches all of the peddler's hats off his head and spreads them throughout the circus! The peddler has to find a new trick to get all his caps back. This book would be great for a circus storytime, as there a parade and a show feature prominently in the story.

Great Sharing Time Book For Pre-K And Parent

Our 3 1/2 year old thoroughly enjoyed this book - first he loved the caps and then he loved all the circus going-ons. The sharing time served as a great introduction to a peddler and then had us empathize with his feelings and experiences as the caps were taken from him and then his unique personage recognized by the circus people. We highly recommend this book!

About the Author
Dr. James B. Kaler is a Professor of Astronomy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research area, in which he has published over 100 papers, involves dying stars. He has held Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships, has been awarded medals for his work from the University of Liege and the University of Mexico, has written for a variety of magazines, was a consultant for Time-Life Books on their Voyage Through the Universe series, and appears frequently on Illinois television and radio. His books include Stars and their Spectra (Cambridge University Press), Stars (Scientific American Library), Astronomy! (HarperCollins), The Ever-Changing Sky (Cambridge), Astronomy! A Brief Edition (Addison-Wesley), and Cosmic Clouds (Scientific American Library). He has also developed, with Sarah Kennedy, the scientific kit Elements of the Universe. He is a past president of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony.

Observatory backup book. High school senior or College 101 Astronomy course

As an amateur astronomer of 40 years I wanted a backup book for myself and others to use for our astronomy club to be used at our observatory.

Even though this book is dated 1994 most of the information is fine and will not change. You may need a later copy for exoplanet exploration or specific technology after 1994. I got a used copy in good condition for about $1.50 plus shipping and handling. Fine for general Astronomy.

Lots of color pictures. James Kayler uses a sensible method of explaining from the simpler subjects to the more complex. There are elementary and more advanced questions and answers on each subject. The book would make a great textbook for a high school senior or college freshman taking an Astronomy 101 course. Not too difficult in math and most should be able to follow the subjects without too much difficulty.

Parts are...Classical, Physical,Planetary and Stellar Astronomy. Birth and Death In the Galaxy and Galaxies and the Universe. James Kayler did a good job and covered all the important bases. This book should give readers the knowledge and excitement of Astronomy for them to explore the wonders of the Universe more. 4 stars and recommended.

Bailey's book deals with the attitudes towards English and how they have changed over the centuries. For this purpose the author has collected an impressive amount of evidence which he presents in a convincing, not overly academic way. Bailey deals both with attitudes towards English in Great Britian itself and abroad, that is in the former colonies. A highly recommended book!
